Autoportraits - Close Ups
These close-ups are diary pages, capturing my personality and inner experience.
It is a search for self-understanding and identity. Pointing the camera at myself allows me to capture the nuances of emotion, age and experience. Particularly the face, with its complex expressions, lines and textures, is a window to the soul.
These photo’s are a form of visual introspection, where every wrinkle, every look and every shadow tells a part of my life story.
Different lighting, perspectives, makeup or props to explore different facets of my own identity, sometimes distorting reality to reveal a deeper truth, are the essential foundations of these photographs.
Rock Decographs
The 'Decographs' evoke a dramatic and introspective atmosphere. The use of chiaroscuro emphasizes form and texture. This gives the images a graphic quality. The photographs are characterized by their minimalist aesthetic. The backgrounds are almost completely black, which isolates the subjects while giving them a certain vulnerability and mystery. The few details that are visible are highlighted, giving them additional meaning.
Many of the photographs, especially those of persons, show figures who appear to be isolated, trapped in their own thoughts or emotions. The emphasis on shadows and the incompleteness of light make the subjects appear exposed and hidden at the same time. This duality creates a sense of vulnerability. The strong contrasts often hide details, encouraging one to interpret the images and come up with their own story. What is going on? Who is this person? What is this object? All of this adds an element of mystery. The lack of color and context gives the images a timelessness, as if the moments being captured are detached from a specific time or place, reinforcing universal emotions.
